Meet Kim Mathiot

I’ve been working in stained glass for over 40 years. After attending art school, I apprenticed to a private studio in Rockford, Illinois in 1982, and then in 1984, transitioned to be the principal designer and fabricator at Mountain Light Glassworks in Highland Park, Illinois. I founded my own stained-glass studio in 1988 in Chicago, and in addition to my commissioned work, produced a line of fused glass boutique jewelry called Fusionart. My work has been installed in private residences, churches, synagogues, restaurants, and hotels. My studio has been featured in publications such as the Chicago Tribune Magazine and Stained Glass Quarterly Magazine. Recently, I have returned to my creative roots, after enjoying a second career as a high school art teacher, to embrace my personal style of art in glass.

I enjoy pushing the artistic boundaries of stained glass by exploring line, texture, color, shape, and form. While I’m adept at representational motifs, I prefer using bold geometrics, dynamic lines, and unexpected details that sets my work apart. My teaching philosophy emphasizes hands-on learning and nurturing passion and creativity in every student.
